EMDR Therapy

AN EFFECTIVE HOLISTIC APPROACH TO TREATING TRAUMA AND NEGATIVE LIFE EXPERIENCES

You may find yourself questioning “Maybe this is just how it is now?” “Maybe this is as good as it gets?”

Let me just say, it doesn’t have to stay this way. You don’t have to accept less than your personal best. I know you’ve tried all the self help books and various versions of talk therapy. I know you’re growing frustrated that you’ve experienced some relief, but not enough to feel like you’re thriving again. I believe you deserve to not just survive the painful past experiences but thrive in spite of them.

I’m here to help you find healing and freedom from difficult life experiences.

So what’s the deal with EMDR?

Why is everyone from Russell Brand to Prince Harry all of sudden talking about it?

EMDR therapy is a powerful evidence-based approach where we work collaboratively to uncover negative beliefs while desensitizing intense emotions and reducing problematic symptoms. I will help you learn to manage the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that surface day to day. Together we will challenge and rebuild a more positive and balanced self-concept not just in your mind, but in your body as well. When we’re done, you will feel like this once cataclysmic life event that was replaying in your mind in IMAX is now nothing more than a itty bitty TV screen in the corner of your mind with the volume turned way down low. The memory and experience will always be with you, but it doesn’t have to keep taking up so much room in your mind and your life.

EMDR can help with:

  • Traumatic events (big, small, one time events or recurring)

  • Depression

  • Low Self-Esteem

  • Anxiety

  • Self-Doubt/Confidence

  • Boundaries/Relational problems

  • Chronic Pain

  • Panic Attacks/Phobias

  • Stress Management

  • Grief

  • Performance Enhancement

What will EMDR Therapy be like?

Let me start by saying. I don’t have a magic wand so we might have to get our hands a little messy.

With that said, this therapy has the potential to change your life.

I know that this difficult experience you’ve encountered is something you have spent a lot of time trying to forget and ignore. And I bet you’ve done a pretty damn good job…up ‘til now.

Taking this head on, may be intense to even think about let alone talk about.

What? That doesn’t make you want to schedule a consultation??! HA! Kidding.

Look, I get it. You’re doing your absolute best to get past this big thing and I’m asking you to intentionally square up with it, B U T I’m not saying you gotta do it alone!

You don’t have to keep white-knuckling it! If we’re a good fit to work together, I will do my very best to ensure that you have all the tools and resources you need to navigate all 8 phases of this work comfortably and effectively.

What are the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy?

  1. History taking

  2. Learn skills to effectively manage emotions & any types of disturbance

  3. Preparation for reprocessing

  4. Bilateral stimulation sessions (eye movements, tapping, audio reprocessing sessions)

  5. Closure

  6. Re-Evaluation

FAQS

What others have asked about EMDR Counseling

  • Everyone’s favorite answer… it depends. Use of EMDR can shorten the length of time you’re in treatment, but it’s not a magic fix, it does require consistency and commitment to achieve the best results. That said, most of my clients experience relief from their symptoms within the first month of treatment.

Some clients can get to “reprocessing” phases of EMDR in 6 months and others 1 year or longer. If at any point in our work I feel that you may be a better candidate for intensive services, specialized care with a specific EMDR provider or benefit more from an entirely different modality, I will let you know and resource you with that information as quickly as possible.

  • Standard sessions with me are 50 minutes but our reprocessing bilateral stimulation sessions can be booked at a 90 minute time interval if you and/or I believe that we may benefit from having an extended session to accomplish our goals.
